Select Page History The origin of Fushimi Inari Taisha is described in Yamashirokoku Fudoki, an ancient report on provincial culture, geography and oral tradition that was presented to the emperor. Irogu no Hatanokimi, an ancestor of Hatanonakatsue no Imiki, is said to have shot a rice cake, which turned into a swan and flew away. Eventually the swan landed on a peak of a mountain, where an auspicious omen occurred and rice grew. It has also been described in other ancient texts, which state that priests such as Hatauji have held spring and autumn festivals at the shrine ever since the deity Inari Okami was enshrined on a plateau in the Inari Mitsugamine area during the Wado era An ancient shrine text also says that Irogu no Hatanokimi, a respected figure in what is now the Fukakusa area of Kyoto, received an imperial order from Empress Genmei to enshrine three deities in three mountains on the first Day of the Horse of the second month of That year, the farmers were blessed with great harvests of grains and much silk from their silkworms. This shows that Fushimi Inari Taisha and the Fukakusa area are closely connected to Hatauji, and that our deity has been enshrined since the first Day of the Horse in the second month of

Hagiography[ edit ] Budai has origins centered around cult worship and local legend. He carries his few possessions in a cloth sack, being poor but content. His figure appears throughout Chinese culture as a representation of both contentment and abundance. A recovered death note dated to A. Instead, these obscure figures represented the “special transmission” that occurred during the early to mid 12th century. This transmission did not rely on patriarchal lineage for legitimacy, but instead used the peculiar personalities and qualities of various folkloric figures to illustrate the Chan tradition’s new commitment to the idea of “awakening” and the propagation of Chan to a larger congregation.
The Chan Masters, Dahui Zonggao — and Hongzhi Zhengjue dates[ clarification needed ] , were both leaders in the initial merging of local legend and Buddhist tradition. Ultimately, Budai was revered from both a folkloric standpoint as a strange, wandering vagabond of the people as well as from his newfound personage within the context of the Chan tradition as a ‘mendicant priest’ who brought abundance, fortune, and joy to all he encountered with the help of his mystical “cloth sack” bag.

Reforms and bureaucratization of government led to the establishment of a permanent imperial capital at Heijokyo, or Nara, in A. The capital at Nara, which gave its name to the new period , was styled after the grand Chinese Tang Dynasty capital at Chang’an and was the first truly urban center in Japan. It soon had a population of , , representing nearly 4 percent of the country’s population, and some 10, people worked in government jobs. Economic and administrative activity increased during the Nara period.
Roads linked Nara to provincial capitals, and taxes were collected more efficiently and routinely. Coins were minted, if not widely used. Outside the Nara area, however, there was little commercial activity, and in the provinces the old Shotoku land reform systems declined. By the mid-eighth century, shoen landed estates , one of the most important economic institutions in medieval Japan, began to rise as a result of the search for a more manageable form of landholding.
Local administration gradually became more self-sufficient, while the breakdown of the old land distribution system and the rise of taxes led to the loss or abandonment of land by many people who became the “wave people,” or ronin. Some of these formerly “public people” were privately employed by large landholders, and “public lands” increasingly reverted to the shoen. Factional fighting at the imperial court continued throughout the Nara period.
Imperial family members, leading court families, such as the Fujiwara, and Buddhist priests all contended for influence.

I’m very indecisive about many aspects of my life, but this is one area I never had to worry about until now. Last summer, I finally began my teaching classes after two years of general education and I was optimistic at first but have slowly realized that it isn’t for me. The more I learn about it, I’m discovering that it isn’t what I thought it would be at all and I want nothing to do with it anymore. I want to have time for myself and not be constantly stressed out.
However, in some ways it’s liberating to admit that I’m over it because I’m finally allowed to imagine other possibilities. I’m not mentally, socially, or emotionally prepared for the job requirements of teaching, and it’s not even something I’m willing to work on over time because I have zero interest in the profession anymore. Even if I had what it takes, I still wouldn’t want to do it.
It doesn’t matter what school, age group, or subject, I just want to get out of the field entirely ASAP. It’s actually astounding how quickly I went from being fully invested to trying to fake it to blatantly not caring in my classes. If I weren’t locked into classes that I’m paying a fortune for, I would have ghosted months ago. Right now I’m just sticking it out until the semester is over. Ideally I would do something with writing because I’m good at it and I enjoy it, but I don’t know if I could realistically provide for myself that way.
I haven’t told many people about my change of heart because I know they’re going to think I’m crazy if I drop education and go for English only, even though it would make me far happier than what I’m doing right now.
Nevertheless, I suddenly got the urge to run down a list of the leading men of Japanese entertainment and giving my two cents on them. This list is by no means complete, and skews heavily towards the good looking actors rather than the acclaimed thespians. If you feel like giving a shout out to a J-actor you love but I neglected to mention, feel free to add them in the comments section. What I love the most about Japanese leading men is that they are all so very different from each other, both in onscreen presence and acting styles.
Yeah, I also feel like it could be two people or Chaeyoung so I’m going to wait for a live.
